Basic Principles of Praying for Money

  1. We must be in "right standing" with God
  2. Our request must be based on the name of Christ (I John 1:5; John 6:35)
  3. We must base our appeal on guarding God's reputation (Matt. 6:9; I Kings 20:23; I Kings 20:28; Deut. 9:28)
  4. The authority of our appeal must be God's Word (Psa. 138:2, 19:8; Prov. 23:22; Neh. 1:8-10)
  5. Our appeal must fulfill the clear will of God (Matt. 6:10; I Thess. 4:3; Romans 5:1-4; I Thess. 5:18; Dan. 9:2,17-19)
  6. We must separate basic needs from project funds (Romans 2:4; I Cor. 9:9-14)
  7. We must follow scriptural principles in obtaining funds (II Cor. 9:6; Phil. 4:10; Mark 15:41; Luke 8:3; John 12:24; Eccl. 11:1; John 15:8,16; I Tim. 5:10)
  8. We must not limit God's ways of providing (Prov. 28:19; James 2:1; Luke 6:33-35)
  9. If we give money, we must not expect money in return (Heb. 11)
  10. To receive funds, we must not seek our own will

Know Why God Does Not Answer Prayer

  1. Breaking a vow (Eccl. 5:4-6; Mal. 2:13-16)
  2. Dishonoring parents (Exo. 20:12; Eph. 6:1-3)
  3. Secret sin (Psa. 66:18; Prov. 15:29)
  4. Pride (Psa. 10:17; James 4:6)
  5. Lustful motives (James 4:1-4; Gal. 5:17)
  6. Desiring to be rich (Prov. 28:22; Job 31:7-8)
  7. Committing adultery (Prov. 5:10; Job 31:9-12)
  8. Unbelief (Matt. 13:58; Luke 17:19)
  9. Unforgiving spirit (Matt. 6:14-15; Matt. 5:7)
  10. Repaying evil for good (Prov. 17:13; Prov. 28:10)
