Avoiding Dating Traps
by Pastor S.M. Davis
Why should we not date?
Because dating:
- involves deceitfulness
- violates christian principles
- dilutes parents' involvement and authority in the child's life
- is a threat to spiritual growth
- is a threat to emotional stability
- is a threat to fellowship
- is a threat to future happiness
- is a threat to purity and virginity
What parents should do:
Realize the blessings you'd get if you follow the christian principles and the consequences if you don't (Acts 17:30; Luke 11:51)
Make it your biggest goal as a parent to keep and protect your child's heart whole (Proverbs 23)
Teach your children to be meek and to control their emotions
Don't encourage boyfriend/girfriend relationship at all (Ephesians 6:4)
Teach these truth regularly and diligently
Keep protection levels high (1 Corinthians 16:13-14)
Pray daily about your children and their future mates
What children should do:
Give your hearts fully to your parents
Memorize and medidate scriptures (Psalms 34; Psalms 73:25-26)
Think how exciting it'll be to give your whole heart to your mate (1 Thessalonians 4:6)
When tempted, pray for your future mate
Get vision greater than yourself that would motivate you to do God's work
Decide to delight in your parents' protection over your life (Psalms 17:8)
Be wiling to be laughed at by those who don't understand
Go to sleep and wait on God to wake you up
Answer when people asked, "Why do you not date?"
Why should I give part of my heart to someone I don't know will be the mate of my life? I'ev decided to keep my whole heart until my parents and I find my mate together.
